About us

In an age of lazy teaching, reading terrible literature (if reading at all), short concentration spans and pupils’ increasing inability to work by themselves, our ethos is one of working intensively, learning by rote, constant revision and examination, and (where applicable) learning in depth grammar and reading testing literature. Children today are very spoon-fed, so we also aim to show pupils how to think for themselves, be prepared for unpleasant scenarios and to take them well beyond syllabus requirements. For example, one pupil scored 85% in her Latin baccalauréat (French A-level) at the age of 16 after just three years’ tutoring. Children forced out of private education by increased fees will benefit hugely from our very affordable tutoring.

  • No contract: there is no contract between the tutor and the client. A client can cancel at any notice and there will be no charge. Traditional tutoring companies charge the full fee without 48 hours’ notice, and this is something we feel very strongly should not be applied. The same also applies to the tutor, who has the right to cancel (or rather book for another occasion). As individual tutors prior to the creation of this company, we found this policy to be enormously popular with clients. It should of course be added that our tutors will do their utmost to stick to agreed lesson times.
  • Negotiated fee: the hourly fee is negotiated between the client and the tutor, and there is an administrator’s fee of only 10%. This means that the fee will range from approximately 50-75% less than usual London-based tutoring companies.
  • Rigorous education: our tutors are experts in traditional methods of teaching. Our fantastic results aside, this has been extremely successful because of the discipline it instils, and parents have consistently approved of this approach. Since so many schools these days do not adopt this approach, this often means pupils easily reach levels exceeding their requirements.
  • Personal selection: although we are obviously not the only company to do this, we at all times maintain a personal connection between tutor and client. We deliberately keep our tutor roster small to preclude impersonal service-providing that large companies cannot avoid. Thus, any potential student will not be offered to a large pool of tutors on a first-come, first-served basis as all the big companies do (and for very high fees). This is critical to our approach.
  • Resources: for no extra costs, we supply for our clients with exam past papers, our own teaching resources, lists of recommended literature and webpages and videos specifically relevant to school syllabuses. We also select those relevant for a particular client’s needs.
  • Commentarii: in keeping with our ethos, we are very keen on educating pupils far beyond the minimum requirement. Aside from the resources listed immediately above, we regularly post links to academic articles, videos and blogs on topics accessible to the ambitious pupil who wants an advanced general knowledge beyond that provided by his academic education. This will help enormously for interviews, particularly for school entrance tests and university applications. We can recommend ones according to a specific child’s age and level.
